How does Pro-Nox™ work?

You hold the mouthpiece or mask yourself and inhale the gas only when you feel you need it. Because the system is patient-controlled, you decide when to breathe it in during your procedure. The effects begin within a few breaths and wear off quickly once you stop inhaling.

Will Pro-Nox™ put me to sleep?

No.

Unlike general anesthesia or IV sedation, Pro-Nox does not put you to sleep. You remain awake, able to communicate with your provider, and can respond to instructions throughout your procedure.

What does Pro-Nox™ feel like?

How quickly does it work?

Most patients begin feeling the effects after approximately 5 to 7 breaths.

The calming and pain-relieving effects occur within minutes.

How long do the effects last?

The effects wear off quickly after you stop inhaling the gas.

Most patients return to their normal level of alertness within 10 to 15 minutes.

Can I drive myself home?

Many patients are able to drive themselves home after treatment because the effects typically resolve within minutes. However, your provider will assess how you are feeling before discharge and will let you know if you should arrange for someone else to drive you home. Follow your provider's specific instructions.

Does Pro-Nox™ completely eliminate pain?

No.

Pro-Nox helps reduce pain, anxiety, and stress, but it does not guarantee a pain-free experience. Many patients find that procedures are significantly more comfortable when Pro-Nox is used as part of their care.

Are there side effects?

Most side effects are mild and temporary.

Some patients may experience:

• Lightheadedness
• Dizziness

• Mild nausea
• Sleepiness

These symptoms typically resolve within minutes after treatment ends.

Who should not use Pro-Nox™?

Pro-Nox may not be appropriate for everyone. Your provider will review your health history before treatment.

It may not be recommended for patients with certain conditions, including:

• Certain lung conditions
• Pneumothorax (collapsed lung)
• Air trapped within body cavities
• Certain ear or sinus conditions
• Inability to hold the mouthpiece or follow instructions
• Certain vitamin B12 deficiency disorders
• Other medical conditions determined by your provider

Please tell your provider about all medical conditions, medications, and if you may be pregnant.

Will I receive needles or an IV?

No.

Pro-Nox does not require an IV. You simply breathe through the mouthpiece or mask during your procedure.

Can Pro-Nox™ be used with local anesthetic?

Yes.

Many procedures combine Pro-Nox with a local anesthetic to improve comfort. Your provider will recommend the most appropriate pain management plan for your procedure.
